Released October of last year, The New Normal's electrifying debut EP, "Not Yours" should be on your to listen list if you’ve not caught it already. Starting with the adrenaline-fueled title track Not Yours, Cathy's dynamic vocals soar over lively guitar chords and pounding drums. With each defiant chant of "What's mine's not yours," the chorus erupts into a powerful declaration of autonomy. And just when you think you've caught your breath, a raw, unfiltered cry of "It's not fucking yours" takes the intensity to a whole new level.
Don’t worry though, the EP is just getting started. "Meta" explodes onto the scene with a brief yet impactful burst of energy, while "Inside" serves up a fast-paced frenzy of vocals and driving drums, complete with a playful guitar solo that adds an extra layer of excitement.
The EP reaches its climax with "Sick," a gritty anthem that opens with a catchy riff and
chunky guitars before diving into a whirlwind of intense vocals and gut-wrenching
choruses.
"Not Yours" is more than just a collection of songs — it's a testament to years of dedication and passion, a reflection of the band's unwavering commitment to spreading a message of kindness and equality. Drawing inspiration from the raw energy of punk rock legends like Fugazi and the unapologetic activism of bands like War on Women, The New Normal have carved out a unique space for themselves in the scene, using their platform to address issues ranging from political unrest to LGBTQ+ rights. But this isn't just about the music — it's about sparking change, challenging the status quo, and standing up for what's right. With gigs lined up throughout 2024 and a second EP already in the works, The New Normal are poised to make waves in the industry and beyond.
