UK rock duo Break Fate are back with a breezy and cinematic new single, “Wild Bright Eyes”. Showing a more introspective side to the group than their 2020 album (aptly titled Ferocity) displayed, Break Fate are channeling some good vibes and a positive attitude on this song. Lead vocalist Mashana Malowa has some real pipes and could break your heart with his vocal flair and lyrical capability. Structurally, the song is just the perfect length to where you feel fulfilled after a full playthrough, but you just can’t help but hit the repeat button for one more spin.
The song is tightly produced with some very satisfying and crunchy guitars punching through the dense sonic landscape that builds up in a song like this. Listening to this takes me away to a happier mental zone; if someone put a music festival on the field from that Windows XP wallpaper, this would be the perfect song and band for the moment. Another thing I admire about this release is the artwork. Of course we all know it’s a close up shot of an eye, but the detail in the iris could be a whole other galaxy, totally befitting the subject matter of this song. It’s extremely easy for normally-heavy bands to fumble it when it comes to the ballads, but Break Fate have avoided that trap by writing a highly personal song that cuts to the chase, wows you with the spectacle and leaves you wanting more. Every moment feels earned and while I’m sure it’ll be back to business as usual for the BF boys on the next song, it’s nice to hear and see them do something different and also do it well.
