STMNTS - Sinking In

STMNTS (pronounced “Statements”) are back with their latest single, Sinking In, and it’s clear that the Baltimore-based band is continuing to carve out a space for themselves in the scene.

Formed in 2022, this five-piece outfit — comprised of Liam King (vocals), Jamie Black (rhythm guitar), Drew Chiodo (lead guitar), Josh Pelc (bass), and Shawn Smyth (drums) — bring their blend of punk, emo, and post-hardcore influences to the table. With inspirations ranging from Four Year Strong to The Wonder Years, Bayside, and Like Pacific, STMNTS are quickly showing why they promise to be a big name in the pop-punk scene.

"Sinking In," builds on the momentum of the band’s 2023 EP Tendencies and their 2024 single "Save Face." The track is produced, mixed, and mastered by Jeff McKinnon at Controlled Sound Studios, with additional production from Evan Seeberger.

After the subtle opening of guitars, Sinking In grabs your attention with its driving rhythm section, courtesy of hard-hitting drums and a thick, beating bassline. These two elements lay the groundwork for the rest of the track. The guitar work adds layers of melodic leads and crunchy, distorted riffs that provide the perfect balance for the single.

Liam delivers a pitch-perfect performance in Sinking In which is nothing short of majestic. His delivery is filled with angst and vulnerability, there's a perfect aroma of angst and emotion in the delivery making every line feel deeply personal and emotional to the listener. The mix is clean, but the song still feels gritty and visceral, making it a perfect reflection of the band’s blend of punk and emo influences.

"Sinking In" is a confident step forward for STMNTS, showcasing their growth as a band while remaining true to the roots of the genres that inspire them. If Sinking In is a sign of what’s to come, STMNTS is undoubtedly a band to watch in 2025 and beyond.
