Concert Review - Dream State

Ever since their reformation, Dream State has released a string of gripping, exhilarating and fresh singles, alongside an accompanying album titled "Still Dreaming."

After getting to see them at Middlesborough's Make A Scene Festival, I made it my destiny to catch a headline of theirs! My hometown of Sheffield on a Saturday night? Perfect.

Support came from the incredible Graphic Nature, who I managed to catch for the 3rd time in 9 months, and are just as exciting as the first and second time. A noisy, hard-hitting metal band that have your attention persistently, it is hard to be there without your jaw hitting the floor as each fragment of sound hits your ears. The elements that go into their work is something to behold, and that is why Graphic Nature have just been put on the front cover of Kerrang!

Dream State, oh boy. They're just a band that capture you, mesmerise you, keep you engaged and just always leave you wanting more. That's how I felt as this event, just as I did at Make A Scene Festival, and I'm sure all the other gig goers felt the same.

Luckily, this time round was a headline set so I saw twice as much as I did last year. The playlist featured all of their new tracks with some older ones peppered in alongside them. Jessie takes the old tracks in her stride, with a perfect blend of putting her own spin on the song, as well as almost identically mimicking CJ before her, the twist brings a whole new striking experience to the listener. The lead singer sadly had a sore throat but you wouldn't have even noticed, especially through the enthusiasm that she brings. There were constant new waves (pardon the pun) of energetic swaying, punching, dancing, and head-banging, as well as swirling her hand to get a circle pit going and a quick trip down to the crowd. Referring back to my quote back in July, "the queen of range," managed to keep her range as perfect as ever with highs, lows, gutturals and pitch-perfect singing even whilst having a sore throat.

The crowd were fantastic at giving the spirit back, but that is easy to do when there's such vigour in their live set and musical prowess. They are a band that excite, that keep things fresh, that intertwine every emotion you can feel within one song. I know the mini album has only just come out, but I can't wait to see what the four-piece have for us next.

There are only a few dates left on this run, so either get to a show, or leave the rest of your 2024 open in case you're lucky enough they announce a new show...

April 10th - Norwich

April 11th - Northampton

April 12th - Birmingham

April 13th - Portsmouth
